Prince Jaehaerys Targaryen is a member of House Targaryen and is the firstborn son of Aegon Targaryen (a grandson of King Jaehaerys I) and Jyanna Lannister. He is the younger brother of Rhaena Targaryen and the older brother of Daeron Targaryen. Jaehaerys is the squire of Ser William Selmy, who is also the prince's sworn sword/shield. He was the last known dragonrider before the events of A Song of Ice and Fire.
Jaehaerys is the protagonist of The Lost Dragon.
Appearance and Character
Jaehaerys is a tall, pale-blonde boy. He is 14 years old at the start of The Lost Dragon. He is described as being rather frail and thin in his appearances, though he can wield a sword rather well. Jaehearys has the standard Targaryen features of pale skin, white-blonde hair, and purple eyes. His eye shade color is indigo with flecks of green and gold, signifying his Lannister heritage.
Though he is doubtful of his abilities, Jaehaerys is a boy who believes in the prowess of his family. He believes in defending his family's honor, and wishes to become a knight when he is older. He has a great deal of love for his family, particularly of his older sister. When she initiates a sexual relationship with him, Jaehaerys is at first reluctant to engage with her, but eventually relents. He is courageous, though he questions his own talent often, and Jaehearys often thinks that he is not good enough to be a knight. His inferiority complex compels many of the events of The Lost Dragon, though his love of his family, particularly of his siblings, is something that Jaehaerys will put his life on the line for. He has risked his life for his older sister and younger brother at multiple points throughout The Lost Dragon without question. Jaehaerys may struggle with the ideals of what a true knight is, or what a Tarygaren prince should be, but his love of his family, and his sense of honor make him act nobly throughout his story.
Jaehaerys's paternal side is of the Targaryen bloodline, while his maternal side is from the Lannister bloodline. Jaehaerys and his siblings are considered to be minor princes/princesses by the time of their introduction in The Lost Dragon, though unbeknownst to them, due to much of their family dying off in the Dance of the Dragons, Jaehaerys was actually the rightful King of Westeros by succession laws during the timeframe of the story. However, due to him (as well as his siblings) being lost in the torrid forests of Sothoryos, this claim was never acted upon.
