Before you dive into the fanon world of Game of Thrones, here are a few tips to help you get started:

  1. It's always helpful to gain some more information about the world of A Song of Ice and Fire. I have put a timeline on this site which contains all of Westeros' recorded history. You can also go and have a look on the official Game of Thrones Wiki or the Wiki of Ice and Fire, both contain valuable information about the lore of Game of Thrones. Recently, I have created a map of the Known World where canon and non-canon locations are placed.
  2. Naming characters can be quite difficult. When you begin your creation on a new character the hardest part often is your character's name. Philanahembree has created a page of given names of Westeros, which contain names of various canon characters. Another extremely useful way of naming characters, locations, and even objects is Fantasy Name Generators. The owner of the site has allowed anyone to use all the names and descriptions in any of their works so you don't need to worry about any copyright infringement issues.
  3. Now we get to what is most likely the hardest, but most fun type of fanon: Short stories and novellas. A short story is a brief work of literature, usually written in narrative prose. Writing one is very difficult and time consuming but in the end, it is definitely worth it. To get some inspiration for writing one, the simplest answer is to look at the A Song of Ice and Fire novels themselves. Observe on how GRRM has written the stories and take some inspiration from them (but don't LITERALLY copy his works). The characters in GRRM's novels are viewed in a POV perspective, but you can write yours in whatever way you want.
  4. If you have any questions, whether it is info about lore, help by creating a fanon page, or just random gibberish, don't hesitate on contacting an adminstrator! As of now, we have three active administrators:

Now that you have learned these useful tips, you can go ahead and create your fanon. Just type in the name of your page in the box below to begin your creation! Best of luck to you and happy editing!
